The
Nassau-Suffolk Funeral Directors Association (NSFDA) was
founded in the 1980s and one of the goals set forth was the
support of mortuary science students. In 2004 the Nassau-Suffolk
Funeral Directors Association Scholarship Fund was established,
naming the Tribute Foundation as the fiduciary/custodian
of the fund.
The annual award
of $500 will be presented at the NSFDA Annual Meeting held
the second Tuesday of May.
Scholarship Award
applicants must:
- Have a home residency in Nassau or Suffolk County;
- Be entering his/her last semester in a New York State
accredited mortuary science program and have a 3.0 GPA or
better (attach a copy of the most recent semester's grades);
- Be recommended by a professor or teacher of the
Mortuary Science Department of the school;
- Intend to serve a Registered Residency in New York State
;
- Attach an essay of at least 500 words on the subject
of why funeral directing was chosen as a profession.
Applicants
must submit the application and attachments to the Nassau-Suffolk
Funeral Directors Association by March 31 of the year of the
award.
The decision of the Scholarship Committee
is final. The Committee has reserved the right to review all
applications and award the scholarship to the student found
to be the most promising applicant based on the above criteria
without regard to sex, race, creed, or ethnic origin. All
materials will become the property of the Scholarship Committee
and will not be returned. A determination letter will be mailed
to all applicants two weeks before the Nassau-Suffolk Funeral
Directors Association Annual Meeting (to which the winner
